When we heard that Hannah was running this year for St Oswald’s Hospice we pledged all our support and treatment packages. In addition to raising more funds for St Oswald’s, Hannah’s goal is to beat last year’s time and finish in under 2 hours. Having been used to doing most of her training alone, what has Hannah let herself in for? Hannah’s conditioning program will be multi-faceted and integrate many therapies from biomechanics to nutrition. Together we will develop an individual program that ensures that Hannah reaches peak condition in September and is free from injury.

4th August: Hannah is adding Corrective Exercise into the mix.  She has been working with Jack Walton at the NIHP to assess posture, flexibility, muscular balance and movement.  One week on her program and Hannah has already greatly improved her Hamstring flexibility and core function, which are essential for running conditioning.

23rd July: Hannah completed the Alnwick Harriers Coastal Run last weekend.  Fantastic effort.  14miles over rocks and sand and through the waves......arguably much tougher than the Great North Run itself.  Bowen, Massage and Podiatry is doing the trick so far.

22nd June: After five days of running and weight training Hannah was ready for her deep-tissue sports massage from former champion athlete Kelly Mason at the NIHP. An hour later and Hannah was loosened up already and should feel the benefit properly the next day, in time for the Newburn River Run.

15th June: Hannah was sent on her way with the new orthotics insole made by Dean Glozier, NIHP Podiatrist. It will stop Hannah's foot from pronating, or rolling inwards on each footfall. If your knees start hurting when you run this can often be the cause.

11th June: Hannah has been complementing her running training for the Great North Run with Strongman Training at 'Be-Fit Outside'.  This is a fantastic form of training as it will build strength and prevent injury through joint stabilisation.  Too much running can lead to repetition injuries and finding other ways to increase strength and fitness are essential. Tyre-flips, Sled-dragging, Farmers-walks... and more.

28th May: Second Bowen Technique treatment for Hannah this week. Great progress being made with structural alignment, flexibility and running technique.  Hannah is also working closely with Biomechanist Dean Glozier of the NIHP to correct footwear and her mechanics of running.

17th May: Hannah’s first Bowen Technique Therapy session with Therapist and NIHP Clinical Director Paula Esson. She 'floated' out of the clinic afterwards and will be back next week!

15th May: As part of her running training and fundraising efforts Hannah completed the ‘Race for Life’. Kelly Mason (Sports Massage Therapist) at the NIHP provided the pre-race massage... and identified a few knots for future reference.

12th May: Up and running, Hannah completed her first round of assessments with Corrective Exercise Coach Jack Walton. Today we looked at posture, functional movement screens and her BioSignature.

5th May: The NIHP Team met with Hannah for the first time. It was great to meet someone so positive and up for it. The treatment package will include Bowen Therapy, podiatry, exercise, nutrition and massage, which may have been a bit overwhelming to Hannah, but she just seemed excited about having a massage whenever she wanted one!
